Post-Mold Reconstruction Specialists

24/7 Emergency Response

Mold Is Gone. The Property Is Gutted. We Rebuild Everything.

Mold remediation companies remove mold. They are not general contractors — and most of them cannot rebuild what they tore out. When the remediation crew finishes, the containment comes down, and clearance testing passes, you are left with a property that is mold-free but uninhabitable — exposed framing, missing drywall, no flooring, open wall cavities, and surfaces that need to be rebuilt from the studs out before anyone can live or work there again. This is where most mold recovery timelines stall — the remediation is done, the insurance claim is open, and the property owner is searching for a licensed general contractor who understands mold events and can step in immediately to complete the rebuild. RCS Builders specializes in post-mold remediation reconstruction. We step in after any mold remediation company has completed their work — assess the demoed condition, develop the complete rebuild scope, coordinate with your insurance adjuster, and restore the property to pre-mold condition completely. One call. Done right.

Industry-Standard Rebuild Estimate — Every Post-Mold Project

Licensed GC — Full Rebuild Through Final Inspection

⚠️ Every Day Your Property Sits Gutted After Mold Remediation Is a Day of ALE Coverage Consumed

Your homeowner's insurance additional living expense coverage — the provision that pays for your hotel and meals while you are displaced — has a limit. Most Arizona homeowner's policies include ALE coverage equal to 20–30% of the dwelling coverage limit. That sounds like a lot until a slow reconstruction process consumes it before the project is complete. The mold remediation company left weeks ago. The property has been sitting exposed since then. Every week without a rebuild contractor engaged is a week of ALE coverage consumed without corresponding progress on returning your home to livable condition. We start post-mold reconstruction immediately — permits applied for before the first nail is pulled, materials ordered before the framing inspection is scheduled, and subcontractors staged to follow structural work without gaps. Speed in post-mold reconstruction is not just about convenience — it is about protecting your ALE coverage and your claim.

What Gets Rebuilt

Every Component of Post-Mold Remediation Reconstruction — What We Rebuild After Every Mold Event Type

Post-mold reconstruction scope depends on what the remediation company removed — which varies significantly by mold event type, contamination extent, and remediation protocol. Here is every component we rebuild across all mold event types.

01
Drywall — All Affected Areas

All drywall removed during mold remediation replaced — new drywall hung, taped, floated, and textured to match existing ceiling and wall finishes throughout every affected room. Mold-resistant drywall specified in bathrooms, kitchens, and any area with elevated moisture exposure. Texture matched to existing throughout — smooth, orange peel, and knockdown all achievable.

Mold-Resistant Spec Available

02
Insulation Replacement

All insulation removed during mold remediation replaced with new insulation installed to current Arizona energy code requirements — wall cavity batt insulation, blown attic insulation, and any vapor barriers or house wrap that were disturbed. Insulation inspection passed where required by permit before drywall installation begins.

Code Required · Permitted

03
Flooring — Subfloor Through Finish

All flooring removed during mold remediation replaced from the subfloor up — subfloor assessed and confirmed at clearance moisture levels before new finish flooring installation. Hardwood, LVP, laminate, tile, and carpet all installed and matched to pre-mold specification where materials are available. Full-room replacement scoped where matching is unavailable.

All Flooring Types

04
Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinetry

Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry removed during mold remediation replaced — new cabinet installation, countertop fabrication and installation, hardware, and all plumbing fixture reconnection coordinated with licensed plumber. Mold-resistant substrate materials specified for bathroom vanities where elevated moisture exposure is present.

Mold-Resistant Substrate

05
Bathroom Tile and Waterproofing

Bathroom tile removed during mold remediation replaced with new waterproof tile backer installation, waterproofing membrane, new tile, grout, and caulk throughout all affected wet areas. Rebuilt to current waterproofing standards — better than the original installation that allowed the mold event in the first place. Shower pan replaced where pan failure caused the mold event.

Waterproof Standards

06
Paint and Finish Work

Complete repaint of all rebuilt areas — walls, ceilings, trim, and doors. Anti-microbial primer applied to all rebuilt surfaces as a first coat — adding an additional layer of mold resistance to the rebuilt assembly. Paint matched to pre-mold specification throughout all affected rooms.

Anti-Microbial Primer

07
Trim, Baseboards and Finish Carpentry

All trim, baseboards, door casings, and finish carpentry removed during mold remediation replaced to match pre-mold profiles and finish. Trim matched where available — full-room replacement scoped where matching profile is discontinued. All finish carpentry completed before final paint coat.

Profile Matched

08
Mechanical Coordination

All electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work required as part of the post-mold rebuild — reconnection of previously disconnected systems, replacement of components removed during remediation, and any code upgrades triggered by the permit — coordinated with licensed subcontractors. All mechanical inspections passed before walls are closed.

All Trades

Post-Mold Rebuild by Event Type

Post-Mold Reconstruction Scope by Event Type — What Each Mold Event Typically Requires

1

Post-Water-Damage Mold — Wall Cavities and Flooring

The most common post-mold rebuild scope. Drywall removed from affected wall cavities, insulation removed, and flooring removed throughout the affected area. Rebuild covers new drywall, insulation, flooring, paint, trim, and baseboards throughout all affected rooms. Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry bases replaced where water and mold affected lower cabinet assemblies. Typically 2–4 weeks from reconstruction start to completion.

2

Post-Black-Mold (Level III) Rebuild

Level III Stachybotrys remediation removes all porous materials in the affected area — drywall, insulation, flooring, and in some cases structural framing. Post-black-mold rebuild is the most extensive single-area mold rebuild scope and frequently involves structural framing repairs alongside the full finish rebuild. Mold-resistant materials specified throughout. Typically 3–6 weeks from reconstruction start to completion.

3

Post-Attic-Mold Rebuild — Insulation and Ceiling

Attic mold remediation removes all contaminated insulation and treats or replaces structural surfaces. Post-attic rebuild covers new attic insulation installation to current energy code and, where the attic mold event caused ceiling damage below, complete ceiling drywall, texture, and paint rebuild in all affected rooms. Typically 2–3 weeks from reconstruction start to completion.

4

Post-Bathroom-Mold Rebuild — Full Bathroom

Bathroom mold remediation requires tile removal and wall assembly demolition — the rebuild is a complete bathroom restoration. New waterproof tile backer, waterproofing membrane, tile, grout, caulk, vanity, fixtures, and paint. Post-bathroom-mold rebuilds are among the highest-finish post-mold scopes we complete. Typically 3–5 weeks from reconstruction start to completion.

5

Post-Commercial-Mold Rebuild

Commercial mold remediation produces large-area demolition events that require commercial-scale reconstruction — IBC code compliance, occupancy requirements, and business interruption minimization throughout. We manage post-commercial-mold reconstruction with the same urgency as the emergency restoration phase — getting the property back to operational condition as fast as the scope and permit timeline allows.

6

Post-Crawl-Space-Mold Rebuild — Floor Assembly

Crawl space mold remediation that required removal of floor insulation and treatment of floor joists requires insulation reinstallation and, where flooring above was removed for access, flooring replacement. Post-crawl-space rebuild covers floor insulation reinstallation and any finish flooring replacement required above the treated assembly.

Why RCS Builders

Why Post-Mold Reconstruction Requires a Licensed General Contractor — And Why RCS Builders Is the Right Call

Post-mold reconstruction is not a handyman job. Here is why it requires a licensed general contractor and why RCS Builders specifically is the right choice for post-mold rebuild work.

Reason 1 — Permits are required: Any structural repairs identified during mold remediation — framing replacement, subfloor replacement — require building permits and inspections in Arizona above certain dollar thresholds. A company without a general contractor license cannot legally pull these permits or supervise licensed subcontractors on permitted work. We are a licensed Arizona general contractor. We pull permits, supervise all licensed subcontractors, and pass every required inspection.

Reason 2 — Mold-resistant specifications matter: Post-mold reconstruction is an opportunity to rebuild better than before — with mold-resistant drywall, waterproof tile backer, anti-microbial primer, and improved moisture source control built into the rebuild specification. A contractor who does not understand mold events rebuilds with the same materials in the same way and the next moisture event produces the same mold event. We specify mold-resistant materials throughout every post-mold rebuild.

Reason 3 — Insurance coordination matters: Post-mold reconstruction is part of the same insurance claim as the mold remediation. The rebuild Xactimate estimate must be developed from the demoed condition, submitted to the carrier, and approved before construction begins. Carriers frequently underscope post-mold rebuild estimates — excluding mold-resistant material upgrades, code upgrade requirements, and multi-room rebuild scope that extends beyond the visible mold area. We manage the post-mold rebuild claim from first estimate through final supplement recovery.

Reason 4 — We step in from wherever you are: Whether your mold remediation was performed by RCS Builders or a different company, we step in for the reconstruction. You do not need to have used us for the remediation to use us for the rebuild. Bring us your clearance documentation and we take it from there.

If You Are Post-Remediation Right Now

Mold Remediation Is Complete — Here Is What to Do Right Now to Start the Rebuild

Step 1

Confirm clearance testing has passed

Make sure the mold remediation company has provided clearance testing documentation from an accredited laboratory confirming spore counts have returned to acceptable levels. Post-mold reconstruction cannot begin in areas that have not received clearance — rebuilding over unconfirmed remediation risks enclosing remaining contamination.

Step 2

Get copies of all remediation documentation

Request the remediation scope of work, clearance testing documentation, and any moisture readings from the remediation company. This documentation is part of your insurance claim and is needed by the rebuild contractor and your adjuster.

Step 3

Do not accept the remediation payment as the full settlement

If your carrier has issued a payment based on the remediation scope only — that is not the full claim. The post-mold reconstruction is a separate Xactimate estimate that must be developed from the demoed condition and submitted for carrier approval before rebuild begins.

Step 4

Call RCS Builders — (480) 204-9035

Tell us the address, the mold event type, and the name of the remediation company. We assess post-remediation properties, develop the complete rebuild scope, and coordinate with your adjuster from the first visit — regardless of who performed the remediation.

Step 5

Do not let anyone begin reconstruction without permits

Post-mold reconstruction that involves structural repairs requires building permits in Arizona. A contractor who begins framing work without a permit is performing illegal construction that will not pass inspection and may require tear-out and redo at your expense. Verify that your rebuild contractor is a licensed Arizona general contractor before signing anything.

Post-Mold Reconstruction Is Covered. We Build the Estimate From the Gutted Condition.

The cost to reconstruct your property to pre-mold condition after mold remediation is covered under your homeowner's or commercial property insurance policy as the cost to restore to pre-loss condition — the same coverage basis as any other property damage reconstruction. Post-mold reconstruction claims are frequently underscoped by insurance adjusters who limit the rebuild estimate to the minimum material cost without accounting for mold-resistant material upgrades, code requirements, or the full extent of the demoed area. We develop the complete post-mold rebuild estimate from the actual demoed condition — not from a surface inspection — and we document mold-resistant material upgrades as covered scope items under current building standards. We supplement aggressively when adjusters underscope the rebuild and do not close the claim until every covered dollar is recovered.

  • Clearance testing documentation reviewed and confirmed before estimate
  • Post-remediation demoed condition documented before rebuild estimate
  • Mold-resistant material upgrades documented and supported in estimate
  • Code upgrade requirements identified and included
  • ALE timeline documentation supported throughout rebuild
  • Supplements filed immediately when scope additions are identified
  • Works with all major Arizona homeowner's and commercial carriers
  • Permit and inspection costs included in estimate

Questions & Answers

Post-Mold Remediation Reconstruction — Frequently Asked Questions

  • The mold company finished but said they can't do the rebuild — what do I do?

Call us. We step into post-mold reconstruction for remediation performed by any company. You do not need to have used RCS Builders for the mold remediation to use us for the rebuild. Bring us the clearance testing documentation and the remediation scope of work and we take it from there — assessing the demoed condition, developing the rebuild scope, and coordinating with your insurance adjuster.

  • Can the mold company just patch and repaint instead of a full rebuild?

No — and this is one of the most important things to understand about post-mold reconstruction. Painting over demoed drywall areas without proper drywall installation, taping, floating, and texture does not restore the wall to a condition that is structurally sound, aesthetically acceptable, or insurance-compliant. Every surface that was removed during remediation must be properly rebuilt — not patched. Your insurance carrier is entitled to receive a rebuilt property, not a patched one.

  • Does insurance cover mold-resistant materials in the rebuild?

Yes — mold-resistant materials are current building standard for moisture-risk areas and are a reasonable and covered rebuild specification when they are supported with documentation. We document the use of mold-resistant drywall and waterproof tile backer as current building standard practice in moisture-risk applications and submit that documentation with the Xactimate estimate. Carriers occasionally push back — we supplement with building standard documentation and typically prevail.

  • How long does post-mold reconstruction take?

It depends on scope. A single bathroom post-mold rebuild typically takes 3–5 weeks. A multi-room wall cavity mold rebuild runs 2–4 weeks. Post-black-mold rebuilds with structural framing repairs run 4–8 weeks. Post-attic-mold insulation and ceiling rebuild runs 2–3 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline at the start of every project.

  • Does reconstruction require a building permit?

Any structural repairs identified during mold remediation — bottom plate replacement, stud replacement, subfloor replacement — require building permits and inspections in most Arizona jurisdictions above certain dollar thresholds. Finish work — drywall, flooring, painting — typically does not require permits. We identify permit requirements at the start of every project and pull all required permits under our Arizona GC license before structural work begins.

  • The insurance adjuster says the rebuild scope is only the rooms where mold was visible — is that right?

Not necessarily. Mold remediation companies open wall cavities, access attic spaces, and remove flooring based on moisture readings and contamination scope — not just where mold was visible from the surface. The rebuild scope should match the remediation scope — every area that was opened and every material that was removed needs to be rebuilt. We document the demoed condition and build the Xactimate estimate from what was actually removed — not from what was visible from the finished surface before remediation.
